Students looking for practical further education opportunities, and others looking for new career challenges should look no further than major local employer, and household name, Tarmac. The company has announced three new apprenticeships to be based at its Barnstone Cement Plant in Nottinghamshire, which has been manufacturing cement products for over 150 years.
The three apprenticeships involve a mix of college-based study and on-site practical experience. There is one electrical and one mechanical scheme which are over four years with a day release at Nottingham College. The third is a three-year higher apprenticeship which will focus on production and involve study at Derby University.
The apprentices will join the highly skilled Barnstone workforce who produce specialist cements for construction projects across the UK and abroad.
Steve Odell, Tarmac’s Barnstone Plant manager says: “We are delighted to be able to offer these apprenticeships at Barnstone this year. Our apprentices have personalised training and clear development, tailored to their strengths and ambitions.
“Our apprenticeship scheme has a very successful track record with many participants completing their training and going on to take on permanent roles in our business. We look forward to receiving applicants for this year’s intake.”
